How to brief a web designer (and get an accurate quote)
Asking "how much for a website?" without details is like asking "how much for a car?". The more clearly you describe what you need, the more accurate (and comparable) your quotes will be.
Eight things to include
- What your business does, who your customers are, and where you operate.
- The main goal of the website: enquiries, bookings, online sales, credibility?
- Pages you think you need, even a rough list.
- Features: WhatsApp, booking, payments, blog, logins.
- Content: do you have text, photos and a logo, or do you need help?
- Websites you like, and what you like about them.
- Deadline: a launch date or season you're working towards.
- Budget range: it helps a designer suggest the right solution rather than guess.
Questions to ask them
- What exactly is included, and what costs extra?
- How many rounds of changes?
- Who owns the website and domain after payment?
- What happens after launch: hosting, updates, support?
